Ordinær pris 159,00 kr Salgspris 79,50 kr Spar 50%Dudh Kosi region at 1:50,000 in a series of detailed topographic maps of selected trekking areas of Nepal originally prepared by E. Schneider and now edited by the German Scientific Association of Comparative High-Mountain Research (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für vergleichende Hochgebirgsforschung). The map covers the lower Dudh Kosi River, the downstream end of the Hinku River, and the Rawa River.
Traditionally referred to as “the Schneider maps”, titles in this series cover Nepal’s most popular trekking regions at 1:50,000 or 1:100,000. The maps were originally prepared by the Austrian climber and cartographer Erwin Schneider and for nearly five decades provided the best and often the only coverage of these areas. Now sponsored by the German Scientific Association of Comparative High-Mountain Research (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für vergleichende Hochgebirgsforschung), the maps are still quoted in most trekking guides to Nepal. Most maps have contours at 40-m intervals and, with bold relief shading and colouring for the glaciers, provide a vivid representation of the terrain. Margin ticks and crosshairs give UTM coordinates plus latitude and longitude. Map legend is in English.

A Long Way South
Ordinær pris 89,50 krIn A Long Way South, itinerant traveller Sara Stewart relates memories salvaged from her explorations of Latin America during 1974/5, a turbulent, politically unstable period where kidnappings and smuggling were commonplace, where dead bodies lined the roads and where tanks guarded the streets of two capitals following a military coup and insurgency. Posing as the ship captain's niece, Sara crossed the Atlantic in a cargo boat before docking in Veracruz, Mexico. There she followed an Irishman and his pack of hounds as they hunted jackals through desert cacti, then met film makers and fishermen - and fell in love.
Travelling by local buses and trains, she gradually headed south, watching dead bodies pile up in Central American countries and celebrating Christmas in El Salvador, before eventually reaching South America. In Ecuador she rode on a train roof through towering landscapes and encountered tribal people, then travelled by sea to the fabled Galápagos Islands. Once back on the South American mainland, she braved rampant lawlessness in Lima, tanks and troops lining the streets of the Peruvian capital.
In Bolivia she joined a bus full of female smugglers, traversed flooded rivers and survived freezing nights. Tanks also characterised Sara's time in Santiago, the Chilean capital, which had just experienced a military coup that ended democracy and established General Pinochet's long-lasting dictatorship. Continuing southwards, Sara crossed the vastness of Patagonia to endure rough seas on a boat with esteemed author Bruce Chatwin, before venturing across the Andes into Argentina.
The country proved to be out of control, characterised by crazy inflation, political mayhem and kidnappings, and abject poverty contrasting with ostentatious wealth. Reaching Brazil, Sara's journey culminated with marvelling at Iguaçu Falls before unexpectedly partying with notorious Great Train Robber and fugitive Ronnie Biggs near Rio de Janeiro's Ipanema Beach. An authentic recollection of intrepid travels during an era long before travel became straightforward, the memoirs collated in A Long Way South are a thrilling, engaging read - a compendium of tales as much about remarkable people as they are about the diverse, fascinating places and charged political situations that characterised 1970s Latin America.

Saudi Arabia
Ordinær pris 109,50 krFrom a distance, Saudi Arabia may seem a subdued, or even dull place; but for those who take a closer look it emerges as a fascinating country, not necessarily because of its political and economic importance, but because of its people. Reticent perhaps but, on closer acquaintance, charming and warm, the Saudis form a far less monolithic society than one might expect. Divided by region, creed, and background but united in Islam, insular yet forever traveling abroad, and living with a foreign contingent that makes up nearly one-third of the population: the list goes on.
So what do Saudis have in common beyond their national dress? Culture Smart! Saudi Arabia will help you navigate the swirling waters of this important and fast-changing country. Social, cultural, and business life is demystified in concise chapters, while sections on the values, traditions, and attitudes that prevail will help you find your way through the new and unexpected situations that you are likely to encounter.

Map of the Invisible World
Ordinær pris 149,00 kr Salgspris 74,50 kr Spar 50%From the author of the internationally acclaimed, Whitbread Award-winning 'The Harmony Silk Factory' comes an enthralling new novel that evokes an exotic yet turbulent and often frightening world. Sixteen-year-old Adam is an orphan three times over. He and his older brother, Johan, were abandoned by their mother as children; he watched as Johan was adopted and taken away by a wealthy couple; and he had to hide when Karl, the Dutch man who raised him, was arrested by soldiers during Sukarno's drive to purge 1960s Indonesia of its colonial past.
Adam sets out on a quest to find Karl, but all he has to guide him are some old photos and letters, which send him to the colourful, dangerous capital, Jakarta. Johan, meanwhile, is living a seemingly carefree, privileged life in Malaysia, but is careening out of control, unable to forget the long-ago betrayal of his helpless, trusting brother. 'Map of the Invisible World' is a masterful novel, and confirms Tash Aw as one of the most exciting young writers at work today.

A Boy of China
Ordinær pris 159,00 kr Salgspris 79,50 kr Spar 50%the incredible story of the search for one of mao's lost children, set against the extraordinary backdrop of modern china. 'a son is very important in chinese society,' he had said. 'to lose one is careless. The ancestors would be angry.' intrigued by stories of a son given away by mao and his then-wife during the long march, and mystified by the ‘official' explanation of the boy's fate (whereabouts unknown - no further information available), richard loseby sets out alone across china in search of answers. Tracing mao's own revolutionary journey, the author encounters the extraordinary realities of a new revolution, one that is transforming an ancient culture into a modern economic powerhouse. At the heart of the journey is the hunt for an elusive truth about a brutal and traumatic time in the nation's still raw history. Who was that abandoned boy? Might he still be alive? Would he even want to be found? The result is an amazing traveller's tale – revealing, poignant, funny, sad and unexpected at every turn. A boy of china takes the reader on an unforgettable journey that is at once intimate and epic
