Europe Eastern: Railway & Road
Ordinær pris 199,00 krEurope may be small in comparison to Canada, but it is densely populated and difficult to map as a continent while providing detail. Eastern Europe used to be defined as everything behind the Iron Curtain during the Cold War, but now it encompasses everything east of Germany and Switzerland, which means that this map covers Italy, Greece and the Balkan countries, the Central European countries of Romania and Hungary and most of Ukraine, Poland and the three Baltic states, and western Russia as far east as Volgograd, as well as much of Turkey. It is a combined road and rail map, showing motorways and major highways, fast-train routes in red and regular services in black. It also shows major cruise line routes, although many have been suspended due to Covid and political situations in Russia and Turkey.
Essentially, this is a map covering a very large area, as are our maps of Western and Central Europe, and our earlier map of Scandinavia. We have tried to make it politically correct, which is difficult considering the Russian occupation of Crimea and the Donetsk region of Ukraine and the on-going controversy over the ‘proper’ name for Macedonia, so we apologize for any errors. For simplicity’s sake, we have named most place names in English, so Roma is Rome and Moscva is Moscow etc. Fortunately, most English place names are the same in the local languages. However, being ITMB, Naples is Napoli, and Florence is Firenze, so don’t be too critical of us; we’re trying to reconcile differing perspectives.

Caucasus: Georgia & Armenia
Ordinær pris 199,00 krTwo of the most interesting countries to emerge from the collapse of the dreaded Soviet Union were Georgia and Armenia. Both are still fragile economies tied closely to modern-day Russia, but are both very proud independent countries. Georgia occupies one side of the map sheet, with a detailed inset map of Tbilisi, the capital. The country shares a long border with Russia and borders on Turkey to the south. Batum (Batu) is the main port, with ferry services across the Black Sea to Trabzon, Istanbul, and Novorossijsk. For visitors, the main attraction must be the country’s many picturesque churches, but fortresses would enjoy second place. We have tried to mark roads by quality as well as importance.
The other side of the map sheet concentrates on Armenia and its capital of Yerevan - (City Centre Map included). This country is the location of Mount Aragat, an extinct volcano that is the highest point of land in Transcaucasia. Armenia is an ancient Christian country and its monasteries are well-worth visiting. The one in Geghard dates from 1215 and is a World Heritage site. Lake Sevan is the largest body of water in the Caucasus region. The country borders Georgia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan and small parts of those countries show on the map.

Albania
Ordinær pris 199,00 krRoad map of Albania with city maps of Vlorë, Berat, Gjirokastër, Tirana, Korcë, Durrës and Shkodër.
Although still underdeveloped, tourism in Albania is amongst the fastest growing in Europe. With its Greek, Roman and Ottoman architecture and its natural beauty, including Mediterranean beaches and the Albanian Alps, this is not at all surprising. The country had a reputation during the Cold War of being rather secretive and unfriendly, but it is the only formerly-communist-run country to have its totalitarian government hold a referendum on future governing systems (in 1992) and respected the will of the people as expressed and arranged for democratic elections. The country has being improving its infrastructure ever since. The cities of Berat, Durres, Gjirokaster, Korce, Shkoder, Tirane (the capital) and Vlore are included as insets for good measure.
Legend includes: roads by classification, international airports, domestic airports, ports, ruins, historic/archeological, hot springs, forts, lighthouses, national parks, world heritages, mountain peaks, spot heights, universities, oil fields, point of interests, beaches, camping sites, churches, viewpoints, mosques, passes, caves, border crossings, mines, hospitals and much more.

Japan: Tokyo (Kanto & Chubu Regions)
Ordinær pris 199,00 krTokyo is one of the most populous cities in the world, so it is very difficult to capture all of it on one map sheet. The areas of touristic interest tend to exist in a relatively small portion of the metropolis, essentially from the Shibuya and Shinjuku shopping areas in the west to the Asakusa temple complex in the east. All the subway lines are shown, as well as stations. The rail lines passing through the city are numerous, but well-portrayed, including the monorail going to Haneda Airport and the main Shinkensen Terminal. The imperial palace is prominently shown, although not open for tourists. Tokyo tends to be a bit overwhelming, so having a good map is essential.
This map includes an inset of the Narita International Airport and train routes into Tokyo, as well as a large inset showing the spaghetti-like network of subway/rail lines serving Tokyo. The reverse side of the sheet is essentially a detailed map of central Japan as far west as Nagoya and north to Yamagata, offering visitors to Tokyo with a wealth of day trips to interesting cities and nearby islands without needing a separate map. The Top Attractions list notes such treasures as Odawara Castle, or the shrine complex at Nikko. Mount Fuji is of course included, as is the spot where Westerners first arrived (near Shimoda). A fascinating map!

Norway: Oslo, Bergen & South
Ordinær pris 199,00 krThis map represents a major step forward on coverage of southern Norway. The map is now on tear-resistant stone paper and places Oslo and Bergen on one side, allowing us to include a large-scale map of all of southern Norway as far north as Trondheim on the other side. This covers the portion of Norway most visited and includes all the best-known fiords. The back cover also shows a schematic rendition of the 6 metro lines in Oslo, plus the tram network and the commuter rail from the airport into the city.

Austria: Rail & Road
Ordinær pris 199,00 krAustria is both an ancient country and a modern country. It was a powerful empire prior to the French Revolution (Marie Antoinette was an Austrian princess prior to her marriage to the king of France), and WW1 was strongly influenced by the Austro-Hungarian empire. The aftermath of that war resulted in Austria becoming much diminished in power, but despite WW2, its borders remain much as they were in 1918. That said, today's Austria is a lovely and safe place to visit. 75 years of peaceful neutrality has restored the country to prosperity and the country is loaded with picturesque villages, lovely mountain scenes, historic castles and palaces, wonderful churches, and museums galore.
This map emphasises the rail network that is the best way to travel around the country, but also shows motorways and ordinary highways, parks, scenic attractions, and connections to surrounding countries.

Cyprus
Ordinær pris 199,00 krCyprus is a lovely Mediterranean island; a popular tourist destination for Europeans. It is also a very historic island, with roots going back to Phoenician times and probably before. Politically, the island is divided into Turkish-controlled Northern Cyprus and EU-member Cyprus, the southern two-thirds of the island. Most travel is to the southern portion, with numerous resort hotels and beaches lining the coast. This is also the most economically-developed part of the island, as the northern portion has not been recognized by anyone except Turkey, which still maintains a significant military presence in areas they control. It is possible for tourists to pass through the ‘green zone’ in Nicosia from south to north and back safely and efficiently. T
he north portion is, in my opinion, more interesting simply because it is less travelled. When we were visiting the island to research it, we spent most of our time driving mountainous roads, discovering interesting villages (and occasionally, military outposts), but we never felt fearful or were harassed by anyone. To me, the most fascinating part of the island was the very contentious Famagusta city area right on the border that is now an abandoned city covering many blocks of high-rises. We were able to drive through quite a bit of it before being waved off by Turkish soldiers. Regardless of politics, the island is a dream resort for anyone.
We have tried to be fair to both sides of this divided island; a wonderful place to explore or enjoy on a beach – North or South! Legend Includes: Roads by classification, Rivers and Lakes, National Park, Airports, Points of Interests, Highways, Main Roads, Zoos, Fishing, and much more...

Uzbekistan; Kyrgyzstan; Tajikistan
Ordinær pris 199,00 krFinally, our ITMB map of Uzbekistan is back in print! Tourism to the ‘Stans’ is increasing as these former parts of the Soviet Empire find their way in a changing world. This time, we have combined the country with the two other Stans on one side, which makes sense given their shape; then, on the reverse side, we have expanded the artwork to show Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to good advantage.
The map also includes excellent inset maps of Samarkand, Tashkent, Dushanbe, and Bishkek, which I’m sure all are familiar names. Needless to say, all three countries count as ‘adventure’ travel. Facilities are good in major cities, but roads are of an uncertain quality, and accommodations sparse. Still, this is an exceptionally interesting part of the world. The traditional Great Silk Road passed through this region, and to this day Tashkent is a major trading transfer point. Nine points of major interest are included, including the Ark-Citadel dating from 400BC, the Minaret of Kalta-Minor, and the great Caravanserai from the Middle Ages.

Side 1 covers from Tokyo north to Sendai/Nigata and west to Nagoya. Side two covers all of Japan as far as Hiroshima, with insets of the Osaka/Kobe and Kyoto/Nara regions. Naturally, all touristic attractions are noted.

France: South Rail & Bike
Ordinær pris 199,00 krThis is a brand new title for ITMB and an attempt to portray a changing travel landscape in a mapping format. Eco-tourism is a rapidly growing activity, with enormous potential. At the same time, governments are seeking to reduce carbon pollution by encouraging train travel, so ITMB is climbing aboard the movement by publishing a map encouraging train travel while still retaining the road network and noting all the long-distance bike routes in southern France by designated number.
This is, by its scale, a generalized map of that portion of France south of Poitiers or Lyon to the Mediterranean, so is more of a regional map showing biking opportunities than a detailed trail map. Nevertheless, it is an excellent map on waterproof paper showing cycling routes and tertiary roads that are suitable for recreational exploration. Naturally, motorways and main highways are shown as well. Legend Includes: Roads by classification, Rivers and Lakes, National Park, Airports, Points of Interests, Mining, Highways, Main Roads, Zoos, Fishing, , and much more...
