The two Central Asian countries of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are rapidly developing a touristic market and we feel that the world needs a good map to reflect their growing importance. The two ‘stans were part of the Soviet empire that fell apart in 1990, creating a dozen new countries. This double-sided map covers Kyrgyzstan on one side, with an inset map of its capital, Bishkek. The main attractions are Osh and Suyab, both ancient market centres on the Silk Road, and Lake Issyk-Kul, the world’s second largest alpine lake.

The reverse side concentrates on Tajikistan mountainous country just west of the Himalayas, with an inset of its capital, Dushanbe. Both of these countries should be considered ‘adventure’ destinations. Fra ITM: We are pleased to re-introduce our popular regional map of the northern mountain states. The USA divides naturally into regions, and the three states of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming form such a unit. This is a double-sided map, with Idaho and western Montana filling one side and the rest of Montana and Wyoming completing the second side. The three states are lightly populated and have no major urban areas, but interesting towns to visit and lots of wilderness areas worth exploring. Yellowstone National Park is a great attraction, as is Grand Teto to its south. Historically, the battlefield of the Little Big Horn can be explored east of Billings, MT. This is a great map for exploring!

Fra ITM: The country of Guadeloupe (1:110.000) actually consists of six islands, with the main island being divided by a narrow peninsula into Basse-Terre and Grand-Terre. It is a French possession, so uses the Euro as its currency. The other touristic island is Marie-Galante, which one reaches by ferry from the capital city of Pointe-a-Pitre. The only airport is north of the capital, and touristic access is through it, or via the regular ferry from Dominica. Obviously, the lingua franca is French, and the towns have exotic-sounding names like Petites-Anses, Grand-Bourg, or Le Moule. Touristic resorts exist, but are scattered, unlike the complexes in Mexico. The road network is more basic, but reasonably comprehensive, and the significance of the country is that of a Caribbean European enclave combining the best of both continents. The other side of the map consists of a detailed map of Dominica (1:50.000), a popular cruise ship stop-over. The capital is Roseau, and an inset map is included. Beach resort enclaves exist south of the city, but what Dominica offers that varies from most other Caribbean islands is a well-developed network of inland resorts to explore the jungle-like mountainous parts of the island.

This edition of France continues a developing strain of European country maps for ITMB – placing an emphasis on train travel. Tourism is changing, or rather, is growing exponentially as more and more people from Asia visit France. Most of these visitors, and for that matter, most visitors from North America, prefer to travel around France by using the excellent rail network, rather than by road. Most map publishers have removed rail lines from their maps in order to concentrate on those people travelling by car.

Our map shows the road network in good detail, but our difference is that we show the rail network in excellent detail as well. As a country, France is one of the most popular destinations in Europe, and for good reason. Whether one is interested in the chateaux gracing the Loire Valley or the great cathedrals of Chartres or Reims, or the massive defensive fortresses of bygone years, France offers something for everyone.

This is a traveller’s map, whether moving around by rail or by road, its plastic paper ensures it will not tear or crack, and can even be used as an umbrella if one is caught in a sudden rainstorm! We have also included anther feature common to ITM maps, a listing of the top ten attractions in the country – hard to do for France! The map includes dozens of noteworthy attractions, World Heritage sites, and scenic back roads for those wishing to avoid motorways.

Fra ITM: 4th edition 2015. Easter Island is so isolated that it is not certain whether it is part of Polynesia or an off-shoot of South America. Geologically, it is neither; just a volcanic lump in the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Its original inhabitants probably came from Polynesia; since supplanted by migrants from Chile, which is the political authority governing the island. Regardless, it is an intriguing place, famous for the Maoi – giant heads originally raised to protect family holdings. These huge, mysterious heads rest in various locations on the island and are one of the wonders of the world. This map also includes a detailed map of Santiago de Chile, the capital of Chile, for the simple reason that all flights to Easter Island originate in that city, so everyone going to Easter Island needs a map of Santiago as well. This usage is merely for the convenience of visitors going to Easter Island.

Chile is a very long, thin country, so is best portrayed in a series of three strip maps. This enables a scale that expands information while retaining ease of use. Printed on durable plastic paper, the ITMB map is hardy enough to stand up to any trip. The map also includes inset maps of central Santiago, Santiago region, Santiago transit, Easter Island, and Robinson Crusoe Island (Alexander Selkirk was the unfortunate real-life castaway immortalized in Robert Louis Stevenson’s marvelous fictional account of Robinson Crusoe).

Fra ITM: This is a brand new title for ITMB. Calgary is the focus of Canada’s oil industry, the largest city in Alberta, and a major travel hub for international flights. It is the destination of choice for Europeans planning to travel around Western Canada. The city was founded due to the rail line being pushed westward to meet the line being constructed from Vancouver eastward, creating North America’s only trans-continental rail line. The annual Stampede Rodeo held there each July is a highlight of the city’s busy program. The second side of the map covers the southern half of the Province of Alberta and a bit of BC, with an excellent inset map of the town of Banff, and another of the Province’s capital, Edmonton. This map would be perfect for the short-term visitor wishing to explore from the American border to the top of Jasper National Park, and from western Saskatchewan to British Columbia; excellent road coverage, and all attractions noted.

Fra ITM: Cape Verde Islands presented on an ITMB map both as a group at 1:500,000 and individually at more detailed scales with altitude colouring to show the topography, plus on the reverse an indexed map of Western Africa at 1:3,400,000 extending from the Atlantic coast to Port Harcourt in Nigeria.

On one side is an indexed map presenting the whole Cape Verde Archipelago at 1:500,000 indicating ferry connections between the islands; the map has latitude and longitude lines at 30’ intervals. Adjoining panels present each island separately at a more detailed scale: Santiago at 1:220,000, São Nicolau and São Vicente at 1:200,000, Fogo at 1:180,000, Sãnto Antão at 1:140,000, plus Brava at 1:80,000. Topography is presented by altitude colouring and spot heights, both in feet. The network of primary and selected secondary roads or tracks is shown with driving distances. Symbols indicate various places of interest and facilities. The panels with individual islands have no geographical coordinates. Also included is a street plan of Praia on Santiago highlighting selected hotels, banks, embassies, etc. Accompanying notes provide information on the islands’ history, geography, wildlife, etc.

On the reverse is an indexed map of West Africa extending northwards from the northern coast of the Gulf of Guinea to just above latitude 20ºN, and eastwards from the Atlantic coast to approx 7ºE. Topography is indicated by altitude colouring with graphics for national parks and other protected areas, oasis, etc. The map shows the network of main, secondary and selected other roads and tracks, with driving distances on main routes and locations of border crossings. Railway main lines are included and airports are marked. Symbols indicate various places of interest. The map has latitude and longitude lines at 5º intervals.

In this edition, major urban areas are shown in Cyrillic as well as the Latin alphabet, hypsometry has been re-worked to show elevation differences better. This is a double-sided map of the country (divided into west and east halves) with part of Lithuania on the western part and a fair amount of Russia on the eastern side. Known international border crossings are shown, except on crossing into Russia, which are numerous. A large inset map for Minsk in a very suitable scale (1:15.000 Scale) comprising most of the touristic sights and places of interest and Metro lines has also been provided that is far better than what we could show previously.

Fra ITM: British Columbia's famous Vancouver Island is one of the great touristic attractions of North America. It hosts the provincial capital at Victoria, Butchart Gardens, the logging museum at Duncan, the painted walls at Chemanus, Long Beach at Tofino, and the Totem poles of Alert Bay. It is linked to the USA by ferries from Seattle and Port Angeles, and by ferries from Vancouver and Powell River, as well as by float planes and airports. About 400,000 people live on the island, but the population expands to over a million during the busy summer season. The island offers something for everyone. All the urban areas are small enough to be easily walkable, hikers revel in the challenges of the West Coast Trail (for which you need a separate map), canoeists can take a week exploring the Broken Islands, and everyone can walk the twelve-mile Long Beach. This is a camper's heaven, with hundreds of wilderness campsites and thousands of kilometers of back road logging routes to explore, mountains to climb, and fiords to boat. No wonder this is such a popular travel destination! Inset maps of Victoria and Tofino are included.

Fra ITM: Canadian Rockies: Banff, Kootenay and Yoho National Parks at 1:250,000 in a series of topographic survey maps of selected areas of British Columbia and the Canadian Rockies from ITMB with cartography from Canada’s national survey organization. Most sheets are printed on light, waterproof and tear- resistant plastic paper.

Whilst the Canadian Department of Natural Resources (previously Canada Map Office) decides whether to provide updated pre-printed editions of its survey mapping or switch to print-on-demand only, in 2007 it began co-operating with ITMB on this new series of maps with cartography of the Canadian topographic survey and additional tourist and recreational information provided by ITMB. The maps are double-sided, with either two 1:50,000 maps combined in one title, or a 1:250,000 map supplemented by more detailed coverage at 1:50,000.

In this title: four 1:250,000 Canadian Survey sheets are combined to provide coverage of the southern part of the Canadian Rockies, including Banff, Kootenay and Yoho National Parks, and stretching from the 50º north to Saskatchewan River crossing. Coverage east - west is from Calgary to the Upper Arrow Lake in BC. Elevation is given in feet, with contours at 500ft intervals (conversion chart to metres is provided). Extensive overprint highlights several different types of accommodation and camping facilities, recreational areas doe hiking, canoeing, horse riding, cross-country skiing, climbing, hand gliding, mountain biking, fishing, snowmobiling, etc. The map is printed on light, waterproof and tear-resistant plastic paper.

Fra ITM: 7th edition 2017. Times change, and a consensus has grown into a realization that the traditional indigenous name for the islands off BC's shore should be recognized. At the same time, the official name still recognizes the historical relationship of Queen Charlotte and the early days of British trading. We have added a new map of BC's coastline to the reverse side, covering from the US border north to Prince Rupert. As well, both sides have their own Top Attractions lists to focus attention on major sites, such as Ninstints at the southern tip of HG. As in the past, this edition is printed on tear-resistant waterproof paper. Coast in the scale 1:900.000 with inset maps of Vancouver & Victoria. Haida Gwaii in the scale 1:280.000.

Fra ITM: This is, at the same time, our second edition updated map of Warsaw and a brand new title for ITMB, in that we have added a regional map of the eastern half of Poland to the second side of the map. This gives the end user two maps for the price of one by combining the many attractions of the city with its surrounding countryside. Anyone with a small amount of historical knowledge knows that Warsaw was largely destroyed during World War II. Many historic cities suffered this fate; in the case of Warsaw, the historic old town was re-built more or less as it had been, with some road widenings changing things, and the rest of the city was re-created as a post-war urban area. The old town is actually quite compact, so is shown in detail on an inset map, as is the greater Warsaw urban area The urban map shows rail and metro lines/stations, tram lines, churches, theatres, the enormous Soviet-era cultural centre, hotels etc. The regional map covers a very large portion of eastern Poland, from the eastern borders to Lodz, and includes the roads leading to Krakow and Gdansk; altogether, a perfect map for those using Warsaw as a base and exploring the hinterland on short trips.
